Release Info:
For the past three years, funk fiends Jazzman Gerald and Malcolm Catto have been roaming the everglades of Florida in their spare time, tracking down and unearthing the best and rarest funk records ever to come out of the sunshine state!
After several close run in’s with alligators and over zealous citrus farmers, they came up with a selection of tracks that shows that Florida was truly one of the funkiest states in the 60’s & 70’! The CD covers everything from the soulful Miami sounds of Pearl Dowdell, trash-talking from the inimitable Blowfly (aka Mr Clarence Reid), hard funk instrumentals from the Del-rays, early and raw recordings by Willie ‘Little Beaver’ Hale as well as some Latino flavours from Coke and Luis Santi. The selection represents the diversity and vibrancy of Florida itself – a state that is half Havana, half dirty south, but 100% funky!
The Compilation follows the well-received and groundbreaking compilations Texas Funk (JMANCD006) and Midwest Funk (JMANCD007) – building up a picture of the different places that called the funk their own in the 60’s & 70’s
